Don’t Talk to the Monkey

There’s an old saying, ‘If you don’t like the music don’t waste your breath on the monkey.” It refers to the organ grinder who played music while a pet monkey danced. Talking to the monkey about the music that was playing didn’t do any good because the monkey was not in charge of the music, that was the organ grinder’s job. And so it is with us and the energy we use for manifestation. Complaining to the Universe that we don’t like our life has no effect because it, like the monkey, just dances to the music that we create.

We don’t always feel very connected to this energy and can even feel like it has abandoned us at our times of greatest need. But we are always connected to it and creating with it, in the same way that our heart beats constantly even though we can’t hear or feel it. While we tend to blame the energy (or lack of it) for our challenges, there are two things we need to know to find and keep our connection. First, our vibration and energy control the music and second, what we are connecting with determines the dance or the outcome.

We connect to the energy through the ego, heart or soul. When all three work together, we are connecting from our divine, powerful selves. But when we connect from the ego alone we are in a very powerless cycle because the ego creates from the past. The heart can be a powerful connection but are we asking from our emotions and if so, what kind? Emotions include all kinds of emotional energy, joy, love, happiness and anger, sadness, and fear. The lower our emotional energy, the lower our level of connection. We can’t create our highest and best outcomes if we are not expressing our highest and best energy through our emotions. The soul knows our highest potential but if we are not consciously allowing it to partner with us, it has no power in our life.

While we may feel that we are like the dancing monkey, powerless to control the music and dancing to any tune that plays, we are actually the organ grinder, choosing our song, its rhythm and speed, whether it is playing loudly or can barely be heard. Our song is the music of our heart, the voice of our potential reminding us that we are powerful and divine, deserving and worthy of everything our heart desires for us. The Universe is waiting for us to take control, to be in charge of our music and our soul song and to create the tune we want to dance to. So when we’re feeling stuck, unhappy with our life or know there is something more fulfilling on the horizon, it is time to change the music so we can dance with joy.
